As a real estate agent you sometimes come across special properties with a special story. The cortijo we are showing you here is such a property. Beautiful, authentic, very neatly renovated. The cortijo with stables is situated in a beautiful spot just outside the southern Spanish mountain village Vélez Blanco and overlooks the valley and the surrounding mountains. So what is the story behind this cortijo? We are happy to tell you. In 2004, there was a programme by television producer Endemol called ´Trouble in Paradise´. In this programme, seven couples were allowed to renovate an old cortijo, vote each other out, after which only one winner remained. And one of these cortijos we now have for sale. The cortijo has indeed been beautifully refurbished and we are proud to show it to you.

We drive out of the village of Vélez Blanco and arrive at the cortijo via a narrow, paved road. It is a large property of no less than 495 m2 built on a plot of over 41,287 m2. So you don´t have to worry about neighbours who suddenly build a cortijo nearby, peace and quiet are guaranteed. We park the car next to an annexe that is partly finished and where two more flats could easily be created. For this, as for all other outbuildings, the necessary licences have been issued and the property has recently been provided with an AFO. There is also a licence for keeping horses at this location. The cortijo has water rights and there is a balsa (water storage) present to store the water. There is a water source on the property that provides its own spring water in years when there is sufficient rainfall. We walk past the front of the cortijo and arrive at a large space that is currently used for storage. Here we find a wood oven and a fireplace and there is a generator to provide electricity should there be a power cut.

A little lower on the property is a large water storage area that could easily be converted into a private swimming pool. A big plus during the hot summer months that Andalucia is so well known for. The stables are suitable for keeping several horses. They are equipped with two spacious boxes, a saddle room, a spacious area for storage of feed and a cleaning area. Due to the open structure, there is always sufficient ventilation.

Now let´s have a look inside the cortijo.
We enter the cortijo and enter the large, modern open plan kitchen that is fully equipped. The kitchen has two ovens, a microwave oven, a built-in coffee machine, a built-in dishwasher, a four-burner cooker with built-in grill and, very handy for people who like to cook frequently, a waste bin built into the worktop. The top chefs among you can really indulge themselves here.
From the kitchen we have access to the spacious living room that is located one level higher. The way this ground floor has been designed gives a very pleasant, atmospheric view. Note the thick walls and the authentic beamed ceilings, here we see a perfect combination of the past and the present. In the back part of the ground floor, there is a cosy reading area with a wood-burning stove. Do you see yourself sitting here during the fresher winter evenings, enjoying a good book and a nice glass of wine? Let the busy life just pass you by.

The cortijo has seven very spacious bedrooms, each decorated and furnished in its own way. The beautiful authentic tiled floors downstairs and the wooden floors upstairs give the whole a luxurious and pleasant atmosphere. The cortijo has underfloor heating on the ground floor and radiators on the first floor. Some of the bedrooms have bathrooms en suite, and there are also two separate bathrooms. All bathrooms are modern and nicely executed with toilet, sink, shower and/or bath. Please note the particularly pleasant style of the blue bathroom. Can you imagine relaxing in the bathtub in the middle of the bathroom while looking out through the window at your outdoor area? Or would you rather enjoy a rain shower in your bathroom with those rare gold-coloured tiles? The choice is yours.
